What if there is God? And what if you had to choose only between Heaven and Hell?
Such questions may no longer be necessary as much as what brought you here. But I want to ensure that you have set your presumptions before you carry on reading the good news I have for you. Because whether or not you have observed, sadly, there are still people who deny God's existence despite the evidence in front of them. And there are also people, despite having the Bible, who tell you more about places such as purgatory other than Heaven or Hell.
The Bible is where we find the truth (John 17:17). It is our reality. It is breathed out by God (2 Timothy 3:16-17). And it says we are without excuse even if we deny God (Romans 1:20). So, whether we believe in God or not, we are still answerable to Him at the end of the day.
Once we die, judgment for our souls comes (Hebrews 9:27). So there lays the question, "Where would that judgment put us?" The "Great Judge" has only two destinations for us: Heaven or Hell. Hell is where sinners are thrown into (Revelation 21:8; Romans 2:6-8; Jude 1:7; etc.), while Heaven is for the believers in Christ (John 3:16; Romans 6:23).
The Bible says that God is thrice holy, just, and upright (Isaiah 6:3; Deuteronomy 32:4). A fair judge plays no favoritism, and so God, the Righteous Judge, cannot let sin go unpunished (Proverbs 11:21). It is either He let go of the sinners and be unjust and unholy, or punish them accordingly. But who God says He is remains for He does not change (Malachi 3:6). Since He is holy, He cannot let the sinners go; therefore, He must punish them according to their sins (Jeremiah 21:4).
The bad news is, in our natural state, we deserve Hell because we all have sinned and fallen short of His glory (Romans 3:23). We have hurt God. One may say, "But I am a good person. I do good work. I do charity work. I have never hurt anyone in my life!" But the Bible says no one does good, nor Mary, nor the Pope, nor any pastor, not one (Romans 3:10-12). If there were any good work in the sight of men is but a filthy rag in the eyes of God (Isaiah 64:6). The Bible also says that anyone who says he has no sin is a liar (1 John 1:8-10). So, can anyone in this world confess to God's court he has not sinned, not once? That is our problem. We have transgressed the Law of God, we have sinned against Him and, as a consequence, deserve Hell. Worse, our "good" works cannot save us.
Now, we can continue with this condition or seek that which is good. There comes the good news. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23)." So there is hope, thankfully! Since our good works cannot save us from our sin and Hell, and God requires a holy sacrifice because He is holy, Christ came to sacrifice Himself in our stead. So that hope is in Christ! How do we obtain this? By turning away from our sins and putting our faith in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:8-9).
"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin ... (2 Chronicles 7:14)."
"Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord (Acts 3:19)."
"... whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16)."
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life (John 6:47)."
"... if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9)."
You say, "That's too good to be true!" Well, it is too good, but it is also true. That is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8-9), and a gift does not have to be earned. It is freely given by the giver and must be heartily received by the recipient. Should we decline God's gift, then? O, what a rare and precious gift that is! How can anyone refuse it? You may protest, "But I am such a great sinner! How can I accept it?" Dear reader, if you read your Bible, you will never find a sinless person except Jesus Christ. All the rest are like you and me, sinners. And they were either saved by God's grace or left to their sinful state.
You must choose Life or Death, righteousness or sinfulness, Heaven or Hell now, or it is too late. But I assure you to never keep your soul in bondage to sin and subject to Hell (Death). The Lord has made His offer simple—to simply believe, and all else follows. That is God's promise, that anyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13). Listen to this warning and plea:
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel (Mark 1:15).”
Amen!
